Or you can fold the triangles in half again to create a more angled, regal look like this: Every member of the family looks good in these, so don’t let anyone try to convince you that they are too regal to wear a paper party hat. It doesn’t matter which way you fit the triangles together (inside or outside of each other, or alternating) – fitting them together in the same direction gives the smooth striped effect of the crown below: This is useful if your birthday person is young enough (or old enough, or tipsy enough) to be likely to drop it on the floor and tread on it, or sit on it. The crowns should be sturdy enough to hold their own shape, especially if you push them together tightly, but you can always add a dab of glue into each fold to fix them permanently into shape. When you get to the end (use your head to measure roughly how many pieces you need), simply tuck the last triangle into the first one to complete the circle. Slot the triangle into the fold of the first sheet, and carry on, as below… Take a sheet of origami paper and fold it in half to form a triangle. I used this origami paper because I love the vibrant colours any paper will do though, as long as it is square (try cutting squares of gift-wrap, or even newspaper for stylishly undone look…) I have tried my very best to make this look beautiful and difficult, but in fact it is great fun and one of those rewarding things where you can feel like a genius with very little skill involved. You could do it with one hand whilst saving the world with the other. In describing these as origami crowns, I use the term fairly loosely in truth they involve folding single sheets of paper once and then simply slotting them together. You may need to gently bend your paper to make more of a circular shape and to remove some of the paper fold marks. It’s Harry’s birthday soon, and it seems to me very important that at breakfast-time he should get to wear a crown (because if you can’t be a king on your birthday, when can you?). If you want to add the extra quote to the crown, Cut and glue it on as shown here.
Step 3: Fold the right point over to the left point. Step 2: This is the back of our origami paper, the inner top part of the crown will end up this colour. Apply glue to the end of your paper crown piece, then insert it into the beginning. Step 1: This is the front of our origami paper, the origami crown will be mostly this colour at the end. To close your crown, wrap it around your head and determine the most comfortable end point. Use your bone folder or credit card to smooth out any air bubbles and to make a better crease. Open your folded crown, then insert the glued piece between two of your previously glued paper pieces. If you would like to add more pieces to your regal headpiece, you can do so by first adding glue to two of the bottom points of one of your paper pieces. This completes the first layer of your crown. Stop adding more pieces when you reach the size that you are comfortable with. Repeat step 4, occasionally measuring it around your head to determine the proper size. The glue should only be on one side of the folded piece. Then, insert the glued end inside another paper piece. Add a small amount of glue to one of the bottom edges of your folded paper pieces. Use a bone folder or the edge of a credit card to make a clean crease. Fold your paper diagonally (from point to point), in order to make a triangle. There is a similar looking traditional model called the crown masu box I believe ( tutorial for that here ), which has the box part under the crown. This origami box can also be used as a lid for a taller box. This would be great for kids parties or maybe at weddings.
(Start with about 30.) It’s best to cut a few more than you need just to be on the safe side. Learn how to make a cute origami crown box. The number of squares depends on your head circumference. Cut your paper down to 2 x 2 inch squares.
